Business Hours

In Australia banks generally open from 9:30am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday. General office hours are typically 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday. Post Offices operate these hours, however stamps are often available from hotels.

Climate

Adelaide experiences mild winters and a warm, dry summer. It has an average maximum temperature of 29°C (84.2°F) in summer and 15 – 16°C (59 – 60.8°F) in winter. Plan ahead with our information on temperature and rainfall.

Currency

The currency of Australia is the Australian Dollar. All prices quoted in the brochure are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST. To check the current exchange rate visit www.xe.com.

Customs

Delegates carrying commercial goods or samples may need to obtain permits for their goods depending on the nature of the goods, regardless of value. Quarantine and wildlife regulations and other restrictions may also apply to certain goods. All travelers must declare amounts of $10,000 or more in foreign or Australian currency (notes and coins) you take into or out of Australia. For more information visit www.customs.gov.au.

Electricity

Electrical current is 240/250V, AC 50Hz. The Australian three-pin power outlet is different from that in many countries, so you will need an adaptor. If your appliances are 110V, check if there is a 110/240V switch. If not, you will need a voltage converter. Universal outlets for 240V or 110V shavers are usually found in leading hotels.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) / Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS)

All prices quoted in this brochure are inclusive of 10% GST (Goods and Services Tax), unless otherwise specified. GST applies to most goods and services in Australia.
The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) is administered by the Australian Customs Department and enables travelers departing from Australia to claim a refund of the GST and Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) paid on goods bought in Australia. For detailed information on the TRS visit the website of the Australian Customs and Border Protection Services of the Australian Government.

Indemnity

In the event of industrial disruption or other unforeseen circumstances the Australian Veterinary Association accepts no responsibility for loss of monies incurred by delay or cancellation.

Insurance

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that at the time you register for the conference and book your travel you take out an insurance policy of your choice. The policy should include loss of fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the conference, or through cancellation of the conference, loss of international/domestic air fares through cancellation for any reason, loss of tour monies through cancellation for any reason including airline or related services strikes within Australia, failure to utilise tours or pre booked arrangements due to airline delay, Force Majeure or any other reason, medical expenses (including sickness and accident cover), loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. The conference managers cannot take any responsibility for any participant failing to arrange their own insurance. This insurance is to be purchased in your country of origin.

Language

The official and most widely spoken language in Australia is English, and is also the official language for the Conference.

Quarantine

Australia is free from many plant and animal diseases prevalent in other countries. Very strict quarantine rules apply to the import of animals and plants which cannot be brought into the country without prior application. Animal and plant products are also restricted.

Vaccination

There is no vaccination required for entering Australia. More information can be found on the Department of Health of the Australian Government website.

Parent Room

The Adelaide Convention Centre has two parent rooms which are easily accessible on the ground floor. Please click here to view a marked map with their locations.

Each parent room contains a microwave, breastfeeding chair, toilet and change table.

Parking

If you are driving to the Centre, they offer two undercover car parking options with their North Terrace and Riverbank car parks. The Riverbank car park is accessible from Morphett Street / Festival Drive.
Both car parks are located directly under the Centre and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each is fitted with video surveillance camera systems and security patrols both areas.
Clearance is 2.0 metres and automated payment stations accept payment via card only (major credit cards, debit cards and mobile pay). Please note that their car parks can reach capacity early in the day during busy events.

*Early Bird rate available 7 days for entry between 5:30am – 9:30am and exit between 2:30pm – 6:30pm.
An additional $1.00 will be charged for each additional hour to a maximum of $30.50 over a 24-hour period.

Passport & Immigration

All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia. Welcome letters can be requested following completion of Programme registration by emailing the AVA Annual Conference 2023 Conference Organisers at avaconference2023@arinex.com.au. For visa information please refer to the website of the Department of Home Affairs.
Please note – it is strongly recommended that Australian visa applications are lodged at least two months prior to departure from your point of origin.

Photography

The conference hosts and conference managers have arranged for photography onsite throughout the event. The images may be used for post-conference reports, case studies, marketing collateral and supplied to industry media if requested. If you do not wish for your photo to be taken, please inform the photographer and move out of camera range.

Smoking Policy

South Australia Government imposes a strict no smoking policy in venues, restaurants, bars and shopping centres in Adelaide.

Time

Adelaide is 9.5 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and currently operates Daylight Savings Time. Daylight savings time will finish in Adelaide on the 3rd April, from the 4th April Adelaide will be is 10.5 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
